SPEIRA Research and Development Center

Cologne, November 2, 2021 – SPEIRA GmbH (SPEIRA) is a global aluminum rolling and recycling company with seven production sites and a research and development center. A new era is now beginning for the Bonn site of SPEIRA, formerly Hydro Rolled Products GmbH: the existing research and development functions are being consolidated in Bonn. SPEIRA is using this step to create an agile and future-oriented research and development center.

Based on existing structures that have grown over decades, Dr. Schönheit + Partner (S + P), as a holistically experienced partner, made this "future" tangible, together with the SPEIRA management team. Coming from the process and the people, the proven and the new were transferred into a demand planning. With the experience of an integrated team of architects, production planners, project managers and chance experts, S + P described the future in terms of space, technical requirements and organization and thus laid a foundation for the upcoming planning phase of an investor.

For SPEIRA, the focus was on changes in the organization, the way of working and the processes in the laboratory, production, service and office areas in order to derive a sustainable space location model with space requirements. Process optimization (lean), modern logistics approaches, integration of agile working methods, lean office approaches and an approach focused on people and processes were at the heart of the changes. The project result is an organizational and spatial vision of the reorganization of laboratory and office areas with support functions, which is now followed by the floor plan and design phase with an investor and his planning team.

The SPEIRA project team is enthusiastic about the joint project result with S + P. The project phase with S + P, which focused on user needs and innovative impulses for change, was a necessary step before involving an investor. The project went far beyond mere "space planning", as organization, modern working methods, processes and potentials to be leveraged were also in focus and are now reflected in the result.

"S + P is a good "translator" from the process to the construction world."
